Overview
Larkspur is one of Bend's larger east-side neighborhood districts, bounded roughly by Highway 20 and Franklin Boulevard to the north, Reed Market Road to the south, the Parkway to the west, and the urban growth boundary to the east. It runs from the base of Pilot Butte south to the Reed Market corridor, about two miles north to south. Much of the area developed before full annexation, producing a mix of lot sizes rather than a uniform grid. Homes range from 1970s and 1980s ranch styles to Craftsman-influenced construction from the 1990s and 2000s on medium-size lots with established trees.
Pilot Butte State Scenic Viewpoint anchors the north end. The 114-acre cinder cone, donated to Oregon in 1927, rises about 490 feet and offers 360-degree views of the Cascades. Residents reach it via the Larkspur Trail, a 3.9-mile off-street path managed by Bend Park and Recreation that runs north from Larkspur Park through the Pinewood Natural Area to Neff Road near Pilot Butte Middle School, connecting to the Central Oregon Historic Canal Trail.
The Larkspur Community Center at 1600 SE Reed Market Road is the neighborhood's civic anchor. The 34,000-square-foot facility, reopened in April 2021 after a $23 million renovation, houses a fitness center, an aquatics center with a 135,000-gallon warm-water pool and current channel, group exercise studios, and classrooms. Downtown Bend sits three to four miles west via NE Franklin Avenue.
