Neighborhood
Boyd Acres sits in the northeastern corner of Bend, bounded by Hamby Road to the east, the Deschutes River to the west, Mt. Washington Drive, the North Unit Canal, and Butler Market Road to the south, and Cooley Road to the north. It straddles both US-97 and US-20, so most streets reach the Bend Parkway within a few turns, and the big-box retail at Cascade Village sits inside the neighborhood's southern edge. It is one of Bend's larger neighborhood-association districts by area.
The neighborhood is named for Charles William Boyd, a rancher who arrived in Central Oregon in 1904 and built a cattle operation that grew to around 600 acres at its peak. His ranch buildings were moved a short distance in the late 1970s to a site just north of the Bend River Promenade, where they still stand today as the Pomegranate Home and Garden shop. A working ranch structure from before Bend's development boom, still standing under a new use instead of demolished for one, is unusual in a neighborhood built mostly in the past two decades.
