Neighborhood
Brasada Ranch sits on 1,800 acres on the flank of Powell Butte, an unincorporated community in Crook County on the high desert plateau between Redmond and Prineville. The site sits above 3,000 feet, high enough that Brasada Canyons, the resort's golf course, plays with Cascade Range views for most of its back nine. The land was ranch country before Crook County approved the master plan in 2005, and the resort opened to guests in 2007. That plan entitles the property for up to 750 single-family home sites plus 300 overnight resort keys spread across the 1,800 acres, and it sets aside 900 of those acres, exactly half, as permanent open space rather than build-out.
The community earned a distinction early. In 2007 Brasada became the first newly constructed resort community in the United States to receive a Gold rating from the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED program. Brasada Canyons, the golf course, opened that same year: 18 holes across five sets of tees, co-designed by Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy, with eleven holes routed through canyon terrain. The recognition continued in the years since. Travel and Leisure named Brasada among its Top Resorts in the West every year from 2021 through 2025, and U.S. News and World Report listed it among Oregon's Best Resorts each year from 2022 through 2025.
