Neighborhood
Century West is a City of Bend neighborhood district on the southwest edge of town, centered on the SW Century Drive corridor about 2.5 miles from central Bend. The city recognized it as a formal district on July 20, 2005. The boundary runs between the Deschutes River corridor to the north and the Deschutes National Forest to the west, and most of the housing inside it is single-family, built after 2000. That makes Century West one of the newer subdivisions on Bend's west side, not one of the older neighborhoods closer to downtown.
The defining fact of the address is the road. SW Century Drive runs through the district and becomes the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway, Forest Route 46, at the edge of town, a 66-mile national scenic byway that climbs past Todd Lake, Sparks Lake, Devils Lake, and Elk Lake before ending at Highway 58 southeast of Oakridge. Mt. Bachelor sits about 22 miles and a 22-minute drive west of the neighborhood. The byway closes each winter beyond Mt. Bachelor, so for months of the year the route from here is a drive to one mountain, not a through-road across the Cascades.
